Instructions

Instructions for a research of a European country

Work in pairs. You shall do everything together and not split your work with the topics and countries between you.

1.   Decide on a European country you’d like to know more about.
2.   Take a look at a map to find out where your country is located.
3.   You will search for information in books or on the Internet, but remember to be source-critical. You may        also use your own experiences of the country, if you have any.
4.   Choose five of the following topics to write about.
·         History
·         Sports
·         Nature
·         Famous people from this country
·         Population
·         The capital city
·         Watercourses and mountains
·         Culture
·         Special food
·         Destinations a tourist needs to visit
·         Well known monuments
5.   Choose one more country to write about.
6.   Make a research on the same five topics and compare them to each other.
7.   Assemble your comparisons on a poster. Use both text and pictures.
8.   Prepare an oral presentation of your research. Remember that both of you shall participate and be active during the accounting.

  1. It looks good!
But perhaps you should change the space between may and also. "may also"

  2. Good to remind them that they should do all work and not divide it amongs them. The only thing I have to comment on is that it is "an European country" not "a" because it is not the vowel you should look at but the vowel sound and in "European" there is a consonant sound.

  3. But Therese, since it's a consonant sound shouldn't it be "a" in front of European then?

  4. Marina is right: "a" before consonant sounds and "an" before vowel sounds. The idea is that we prefer not having to vowel sounds clash with one another, so "an" introduces an extra consonant sound to prevent that clash.

The main thing that jumps out at me in this text is "a research". Typically, 'research' is uncountable, and we "do research", we do not "make a research".

"One or more country" should be "countries".

I would recommend using 'should' instead of 'shall' as well, since 'shall' has a very strict and commanding tone to it. But perhaps that's the effect you want to create. :)
